Meet Eric Powell, experienced worship pastor, creative graphic/media designer, and former lead pastor/planter of Encounter Church.
Eric and his wife Andrea have a deep passion to connect those who do not resonate with traditional church — those who have given up on church — with a passionate and purposeful faith in Jesus that goes beyond once a week and into our everyday lives.
Originally from Southern California, our family moved to Helena, Montana seven years ago to build a thriving worship arts ministry from scratch at an established contemporary church with a traditional approach to ministry.
Then in 2009, we began the journey to a new non-traditional church in Helena to reach out to the disconnected and unchurched. Following God's call, we've impacted this community in a significant way through Encounter Church.
While Encounter was Eric's first role as lead pastor, he has served in ministry for nearly 20 years in the areas of worship and youth. He and Andrea have helped challenged traditional ministries to move outside the box in communicating Jesus' unconditional love in non-traditional ways.
With a desire for all ages to discover a full and fulfilling life, Eric is intentional about serving the needs of the community. He recently served on the board of directors for Youth Connections and has been an active member of Downtown Helena.
Eric also has a deep love for the creative arts. He is an accomplished musician and songwriter recently instructing keyboard and voice at "Montana's School of Rock" Capital Fret in downtown Helena.
With a graduate degree in Worship while studying ministry leadership, he has served as the Worship & Arts Pastor at three different churches building effective artist and musician teams from the ground up. He also has an undergraduate degree in Communications with emphasis in marketing and graphic/media design.
Having made the bittersweet decision last October to bring the Encounter Church ministry to a close (read more here), we ard seeking God's direction and open doors to join a growing ministry or new church planting team in the area of worship, arts, and media.
The Powells and their two sons Andrik (19) and Kellin (13) moved back to Southern California in August 2012. Since closing the doors of Encounter, Eric has served as a worship ministry consultant and as an interim worship leader, while also being employed full-time as a Web Design/Developer for a Southern California internet solutions company.
